John Mason is a Professor at Open University, UK
John Mason grew up in Canada where he received his BSc and MSc in mathematics. He went to Madison Wisconsin for a PhD in Logic but switched to Group Theory, and then to Combinatorial Geometry. John Mason came to Europe and joined the Mathematics Department at Open University, UK where he had worked for 39.5 years. He designed and implemented two mathematics summer schools, contributed to numerous courses, and was trained in radio and TV presentation by the BBC. John Mason directed the Centre for Mathematics Education at the Open University for 15 years and was retired as Professor Emeritus in 2009. An Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Oxford, Professor Mason continues to think about mathematical problems, supports others who wish to foster and sustain their own thinking, works on pedagogical issues, and constructs applets to support his mathematical explorations.
